Pasay City, 16 September 2025 – The Philippine men’s volleyball team officially became World Championship title holders after beating Egypt 3-1 during the FIVB World Men’s Volleyball Championship held on Philippine territory at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Egypt and the Philippines were coincidentally matched during the Publisher’s Week. The Philippines, as the host, had the home-court advantage, making the victory more monumental. The victory sets a new milestone — the first Filipino team to secure a championship title in the history of the Philippines. With this victory, the Philippines advanced on the world champion list, going from rank 88 to 77, while Egypt shifted from champion rank 21 to 22.

The next championship rounds will shed light on the two remaining teams that will push forward to the knockout stages of the tournament. The four teams that will compete will be the Philippines, Iran, Egypt and Tunisia and all will balance their scores to 1-1 to prepare for the next matches on Thursday. The matches will devise the final two teams that will proceed to the sixth round of the tournament. The first two victorious teams will be placed directly in the round of the final sixteen.
