To protect the country’s national fish, *Hilsa*, during its breeding season, the Bangladeshi government has deployed 17 naval ships and patrol aircraft. This special operation runs from October 4 to 25 and aims to prevent illegal fishing in the Bay of Bengal and nearby rivers.
Hilsa is one of the most beloved dishes in both Bangladesh and India, with prices in Dhaka’s markets reaching up to 2,200 taka (around $18.40) per kilogram. To support fishing families during the ban, the government is providing 25 kilograms of rice, although some fishermen say this amount isn’t enough.
